Session information

- Title:
- Which patients benefit from basic echo?
- Description:
- In this session, we will explore the scope and role of focused ultrasound in critical care (FUSIC) in the management of unwell patients, the challenges of using FUSIC in mechanically ventilated patients and how this differs from standard outpatient transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). We will also outline the usefulness and clinical application of FUSIC, be it a routine cardio-respiratory system assessment of a stable ICU patient or in the context of a peri-arrest/arrest situation to rule out life-threatening conditions such as pneumothorax, cardiac tamponade, hypovolaemia or massive pulmonary embolism.
