This module provides resources aim to support specialists in palliative care in their learning and practice in specific scenarios.
The sessions will be especially useful to specialist registrars in palliative medicine and specialist palliative care nurses. They may also be useful for other nurses and doctors working to support patients in the community or in the hospital who are caring for patients with complex needs.
There are sessions which discuss:
• intrathecal drug delivery
• heart failure in end-of-life care
• end-of-life care for people experiencing homelessness
• general and nursing care of a tracheostomy or laryngectomy
• non-invasive ventilation in motor neurone disease
• palliative care for adult patients with neuromuscular disorders
The resources in the e-ELCA programme discuss sensitive topics including death, dying, the different stages of end-of-life and bereavement which may be distressing to some learners.
