- This chapter offers an overview of the aim and purpose of the Cervical Screening Programme. It aims to reduce the number of people who develop invasive cervical cancer (incidence) and the number of people who die from cervical cancer (mortality). It does this by offering regular screening to eligible people it identifies and treat conditions which might otherwise develop into invasive cancer.
