- Title:
- MindEd Learning Disability
- Description:
-
In 2019 Health Education England and NHS England published the 'Core Capabilities Framework for Supporting People with a Learning Disability'. This includes people with autism and learning disability. It was produced in partnership with Skills for Care and Skills for Health.
The five MindEd Learning Disability Mental Health modules in this programme now comprise 19 separate sessions of e-learning. They are based on the Core Capabilities Framework. The sessions are intended to support the development of knowledge, skills and competencies related to the mental health of people with learning disability, including people with learning disability and autism.
The programme is complimented by and cross refers to our linked Disability Matters e-learning programme http://www.disabilitymatters.org.uk (Disability Matters covers all types of disability in 0-25 year olds).
The five MindEd learning disability modules are divided into one introductory Tier 1 module aimed universally at anyone supporting a person of all ages with learning disability and mental health issues, and four further tier 1 and tier 2 modules aimed primarily at the professional health and care workforce.
All sessions are written to be accessible, relevant and useful to everyone, including parents/families.
The Tier 1 Learning Disability Awareness module has 5 e-learning sessions. It is a key part of the Health Education England (HEE)/Dept of Health and Social Care (DHSC) England’s new national mandatory awareness training, that is being developed and rolled out. Eventually this will cover all health and care staff.
The three Tier 1/2 modules comprise three sessions per module, with nine sessions in total. These three tier 1/2 modules are each divided into one universal session followed by two more specialised sessions. All sessions are open to all users. These three modules provide an introduction to challenging behaviour and positive behavioural support, mental health problems amongst people with learning disabilities, and advice and guidance about supporting people with learning disabilities and autism.
Finally, there is one Tier 2 module, comprising five e-learning sessions. They cover important health and mental health related topics. This module is aimed at professional Tier 2 health and care staff. Tier 2 level refers to staff in health and care services whose job involves any care, support and interventions for people with learning disability. The five sessions cover epilepsy, physical health care, transitions to adult mental health care from children’s-young people’s services, psychosis, bipolar and depressive disorders in young people.
All the sessions across this programme (19 e-learning sessions) were written by professional author/s partnered by a non-specialist co-author, typically a parent or carer with expert lived experience in these areas. - Created:
