This programme is aimed at GPs, pharmacists and non-specialist clinicians who care for patients with atrial fibrillation. The programme aims to improve participants knowledge of how to assess a patients stroke risk and suitability for anticoagulation therapy as well as educating participants on how to initiate and monitor anticoagualtion therapy, including patient counselling.

Kiruba Nagaratnam
Dr Kiruba Nagaratnam is clinical lead and research and development lead for the stroke service at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, one of the leading hyperacute stroke units in the UK. Dr Nagaratnam is passionate about stroke prevention, particularly AF related strokes. He has led quality improvement projects locally to identify and improve the care of AF patients and has delivered several lectures on this topic to a range of audiences in primary and secondary care both locally and regionally. He is also the primary investigator for several NIHR portfolio studies at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and is leading collaborative research projects with the University of Reading on the use of artificial intelligence in stroke rehabilitation.
Satinder Bhandal
Satinder studied at Kings College, London graduating in 1984. After qualifying she continued her studies and completed her Masters in Clinical Pharmacy in 1987. As a Consultant Pharmacist at Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust she establised the New Oral Anticoagulant Service. The service initiates anticoagulation in most patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation in Buckinghamshire, receiving referrals from both primary and secondary care. In addition, the service reviews those patients on poorly controlled Warfarin with a view to switching to a direct oral anticoagulant where appropriate. The service was credited with preventing over 200 strokes over the first 3 years. She was awarded the prestigious Clinical Pharmacist of the Year Award in 2015 by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society for this achievement. In 2017 she went on to establish the outreach satellite clinics in GP practices as part of the excellence in AF project across Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. Currently she works as the senior practice pharmacist in a large GP practice.
Hannah Oatley
Hannah Oatley leads the AF programme at the Oxford AHSN, working with a wide range of stakeholders on various initiatives aimed at reducing AF related stroke. Hannah has extensive experience of the NHS acute sector, having worked for many years in both operational and strategic management roles at acute trusts. A graduate of the NHS Management Training scheme, Hannah has a Masters degree in Biochemistry and a keen interest in clinical innovation.
