The NRSS Critical Care Passport summarises the roles and the essential skills required for a Non- Registered Support Staff (NRSS) to function in a surge model of care in an intensive care unit (ICU).
The passport can be used as a self-assessment tool and as an assessment tool for use with a supervisor.
The domains covered allow an NRSS to gain exposure to 'pre-ICU course' areas of practice and work in a safe manner within a 'pod' structure, including:
- safety, PPE and ICU bedspace
- equipment, blood glucose monitoring and processing arterial blood gas samples
- delirium
- patient hygiene
