This session brings together, in a single, accessible session, essential practical, legal, and theoretical learning around consent. It enables health and adult social care professionals to explore what is meant by informed consent (or refusal of consent) when people are offered health or care interventions. It explains how to ensure lawful, person-centred practice when seeking consent, both from adults and from young people and children. It explains the roles of the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act in certain situations when a person cannot or does not consent to treatment, and provides links to further information.
