- Supporting children and young people with gender questions or distress and their sexual orientation for health and education professionals
- Description:
-
This course provides four linked sessions which have been created to support both healthcare and education setting professionals.
Part 1 has been created for all professionals across education and health care settings and provide information for professionals who are supporting a child or adolescent with gender questions or who may be experiencing gender-related distress. Part 1 in an introduction to the topic and explores terms, changes in the needs of young people seeking help and changes to support pathways.
There are two separate Part 2 courses that follow. One written for staff in education settings and one written for professionals in healthcare settings. The Part 2 courses provide practical ideas about how to provide holistic support and care to children and young people who might be distressed. These modules aim to give professionals information when gender questions or difficulties first emerge.
There is also a session providing information to healthcare professionals who are supporting children and young people with their sexual orientation. This has been created to provide ideas on ways to support and talk about young people’s sexual orientation.
We also encourage professionals to read the 3 other learning sessions we have created for parents and carers. Consider how they might be used when speaking with and supporting parents and carers you may be in contact with.
The health care professionals learning is intended for professionals working across the whole healthcare system for children and young people. However, it is not specifically designed to address assessment and treatment pathways that may be offered in specialised services. - Hierarchy:
