Course Information
- Title:
- Paramedic management of infectious diseases (including COVID 19)
- Description:
-
The Covid 19 pandemic which was declared in March 2020 presented all healthcare workers including paramedics with the greatest challenge since the modern era of paramedic practice began. A virus spread rapidly in the community leading to serious illness and death on a scale which was unprecedented. Paramedics, wherever they work, were called upon to respond, assess and manage patients who were at high risk of deterioration and at the same time this presented a risk to the health of attending staff.
This course updates and replaces Supporting Paramedic Practice During Covid 19 which was written in the early months of the pandemic. Covid 19 is here to stay. Learning from specific pathophysiology, recognition and management of Covid 19 will support you to develop your understanding of a range of severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) and other viral and bacterial diseases.
The aims of the module are to:
•Provide an overview of Covid 19 since the pandemic
•Offer guidance and learning on the pre-hospital management of Covid 19 and other severe acute respiratory infections (SARI).
•Outline the future management of Covid 19
It is anticipated that this module will grow as other condition-specific sessions are created. The principles of safe and effective management of a SARI may be applied to a range of infectious diseases and the learning offered here will assist with paramedic preparedness for future outbreaks. - Hierarchy:
- Paramedics (PRM) > Paramedic management of infectious diseases (including COVID 19)
- Keywords:
- paramedics, paramedic, covid-19, coronavirus, virus, replication, spread
- Created:
- 28 Dec 2023
